6 Foodie-Inspired Thanksgiving Recipes to Make This Fall More Fun and Delicious
Holy cow, it’s almost Thanksgiving!
I am excited to gather, celebrate, and share great conversations over delicious food with my family. Let’s be real, though- traditional Thanksgiving dishes can sometimes feel a little bland and heavy. But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with the basics of stuffing, potatoes, and turkey (though I have to admit, it wouldn’t feel like Thanksgiving without our family’s beloved cornbread stuffing!!!).
Thanksgiving dishes don’t have to be boring, stressful, or come with a tryptophan laced with guilt food coma. With a few creative tweaks and thoughtful twists, you can enjoy a holiday spread that’s traditional yet exciting and hearty yet nourishing.
Here are six Thanksgiving-inspired recipes that are full of flavor, easy to make, and sure to impress everyone around your fall table.
DISCLAIMER: I have not actually made ANY of these recipes yet, but I will be at my Fall & Thanksgiving Cooking Demo this upcoming Monday, November 25th, from 5-6 PM in North Dallas! If you’re in the area, come join me to taste test, cook, and enjoy these dishes together. Cost: $50. Reserve your spot here!!! Let’s make some delicious memories!
1. Quick Pumpkin Mac & Cheese
Mac & cheese is a classic comfort food, but this version sneaks in the goodness of pumpkin for a fun twist. Plus, it works as a great Fall meal or simple Thanksgiving side, making it perfect for busy holiday prep days.
2. Roasted Butternut Squash with Cumin Seeds, Feta, & Pistachios
Okay, I am honestly so excited about this vibrant, beautiful side. It is a perfect side for both the eyes and the palate. If you haven’t heard of Milk Street, get ready for some crazy and unbelievable ingredient combinations. The roasting brings out the natural sweetness of the butternut squash, while the cumin seeds add warmth and depth. The crumbled feta and pistachios provide a delightful salty crunch, balancing out the flavors. Mmmmmm baby!
3. Winter Squash with Raisins, Almonds and Caramelized Onions
Another crazy, unique recipe from Milk Street that hits the perfect combination of savory and sweet. The caramelized onions add richness, while plump raisins bring a natural sweetness that complements the tender roasted squash. Toasted almonds provide a satisfying crunch, making this dish as texturally exciting as it is flavorful. Yessss, please bring it on!
4. Pumpkin Cornbread with Whipped Maple Butter
This darn recipe has been in my cookbook for years and I can’t wait to take the cornbread up a notch! Give your cornbread a seasonal makeover with the addition of pumpkin puree and a hint of cinnamon. It’s moist, slightly sweet, and pairs beautifully with the star of any Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving meal.
5. Pumpkin-Coconut Cream Pie
Pumpkin pie obviously a Thanksgiving staple, but this version takes it up a notch with a luscious coconut cream topping. I am obsessed with the sound of this dessert to turn the flavor up here. Plus, the coconut adds a tropical flair that’s surprisingly perfect for fall. You can even use a pre-made crust to save time on this one!
6. Honeycrisp Maple Sipper
Toast to the holidays with this refreshing, lightly sweetened drink. It’s a delightful alternative to heavier and boozier holiday beverages. Make it a mocktail by swapping the bourbon for equal part sparkling water and cranberry juice!
